Can you ever imagine an antelope-like long distance athlete from Kenya running for life being chased by an inspired Indian soldier? Ask Abraham Kibuwot who never imagined it wouldn’t be his team mates behind him as always, to produce a top-three podium finish in keeping with the hegemonic monopoly that Kenya enjoyed since 1998 at the Commonwealth Games!

On this Saturday, the 6th of July, 2022 at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, a young soldier from the Indian Army, Avinash Sable (pronounced Sabley in his native state of Maharashtra) not only won more than a billion Indian hearts along with the Silver Medal but also pushed out the defending Gold medalist Kipruto off the podium while the other Kenyan came third!

Miracle of miracles in the world of track and field unfolded as Sable quietly but definitely outran the field from the start, just behind the three Kenyans to within a photo-finish that would have given him a Gold Medal!

One of the best runs you will ever see from an Indian athlete.

“As recent as six years ago, Sable had nothing to do with athletics. He had joined the Army as a sepoy (private) in the 5 Mahar battalion. He had served in the glacial wasteland of Siachen, the jungles of Sikkim and the scorching desert of Rajasthan before he was chosen by his superiors to run track in an inter unit competition. Since running his first race, his progression has been nothing short of meteoric — he’s undoubtedly the best Indian track athlete!”

ASK ABRAHAM ABOUT AVINASH WHO PUT THE FEAR OF GO(L)D INTO HIM FOR THE ENTIRE RACE ESPECIALLY AT THE TAPE!

SALUTE THIS SOLDIER FOR HIS “BRAVERY MEDAL” OF A DIFFERENT KIND!
